Terms of Service

By creating an account or using what-are-you-do-ing, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

what-are-you-do-ing (“the Service”) is a group diary platform that lets multiple people record shared memories in diaries, with Git-inspired version control (commits, diffs, merge, revert). The Service is available via web and mobile applications at whatareyoudo.ing and related subdomains.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) and able to form a binding contract. You are responsible for ensuring your use complies with local laws.

3. Accounts

4. Groups, diaries, and content

4.1 Your content

You retain ownership of text, images, and other content you submit (“User Content”). By submitting User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, display, and process it solely to operate the Service (including backups, search, and version history).

4.2 Sharing with group members

Content you add to a group diary may be visible to other group members according to access-control (ACL) settings. You are responsible for whom you invite and what you share.

4.3 Prohibited content and conduct

You agree not to:

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

5. Version history and merges

The Service stores multiple versions of entries (“commits”). Merging combines content from different members; you are responsible for reviewing merge results and resolving conflicts. Revert creates a new commit based on a prior version. We are not liable for data loss caused by merges, reverts, or member actions within your groups.

6. Subscription plans

6.1 Free plan

6.2 Pro plan

6.3 Billing

Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel via the app or Stripe customer portal where available. Refunds follow Stripe and our stated refund policy (if any) at time of purchase. Plan limits apply immediately upon downgrade (e.g. history beyond 30 days on Free may become inaccessible).

7. Invite links

Group owners may generate invite links. Links are single-use and expire after 7 days unless otherwise stated in the app. Do not share invite links publicly if you intend a private group.

8. Intellectual property

The Service name, branding, software, and documentation are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy or use our trademarks without permission. Open-source components remain under their respective licenses.

9. Third-party services

The Service integrates with third parties including:

Your use of those services may be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for third-party outages.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) USD $50.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your User Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms or for operational reasons. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends; we may delete data after a reasonable period subject to backups and law.

14. Changes

We may modify these Terms. We will update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes may be notified in the app or by email.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country require otherwise.
